One Welfare Phoenix is a pioneering global project created in 2019 that brings together for the first time in history leading organizations and individuals with expertise and interest in the connection between animal and human abuse and neglect. The project was launched to support the sustainable development goals and global reduction of violence. The key goal is the production and dissemination of practical guides for professionals to help identify and report the link between animal and human abuse and neglect, including the relation to their environment.
Dr. Rebeca García Pinillos, CIC Founder, project creator and outgoing chair said: “I am really looking forward to Joe taking over as chair with her broad experience and knowledge and to working more closely with her. Joe’s appointment will bring renewed energy to the project and help strengthen and drive forward ongoing and future work for the benefit of everyone the project aims to support.
Having created and served as One Welfare Phoenix’s Chair for the past four years the time is now right for someone new to lead the Board. Over the past years the project has laid the foundations of a global, multidisciplinary group of volunteers who have been exchanging information, reviewing evidence and working together to raise awareness of the interconnections between animal abuse and neglect. The project has now great momentum to press ahead with the ongoing work and is well positioned for a new chair to carry forward the future development of the project.Joe Bailey is a highly qual ified executive who shares One Welfare’s values and understands the importance of the interconnections between animal and human abuse and neglect.”
Joe Bailey currently works as CEO of the Humanimal Trust and brings a real passion for welfare and wellbeing that commenced in early childhood on the family dairy farm, where she experienced the triumphs and the traumas of livestock farming on both the animals and those responsible for them. She realized that her driving purpose in life was to improve the lives of all animals, and to impart knowledge, empathy, and compassion to those who care for them, and, as a consequence, improve their lives also. Joe has also worked as an RSPCA Inspector, Trading Standards Animal Health and Welfare Officer, Livestock Technical and Welfare Manager for NSF, and Head of Farming for RSPCA Assured. She has also received the CharityComms inspiring communicator award in 2017.
Joe Bailey said: “I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to Chair the board of such an excellent project that can support a reduction of violence globally. I have volunteered for the One Welfare Phoenix project since 2020 and have been deeply impressed by the dedication of board and working group members, volunteering their free time for such important cause. This appointment brings with it the opportunity to drive forward ongoing work and hopefully bring the guidance to completion and I look forward to working closely with One Welfare CIC during my time as Chairman.”
Joe Bailey, alongside board members, acknowledged the role of the outgoing chairman, Dr. Rebeca García Pinillos, thanking her for bringing the project together, and for her commitment and enthusiasm in all things One Welfare.
